I have been offline now for about ten days after a virus attacked my computer and destroyed a number of my operating programs...and...it took longer than normal to get my computer back because apparently the computer store where I get my computer serviced had an out of date phone number. Fortunately, I stopped by the store yesterday to check on the status of my computer or else I may not have gotten my computer back who knows when???? So, what was it like to be without a computer for ten days?....Actually, not as bad as I had anticipated. Before, when my computer went on the blink I would get a bit anxious but this time I just went with the flow. I have kept myself busy with work, sending out Christmas cards, Christmas shopping, wrapping Christmas presents, and listening to a lot of music which I will have more to say about in a later blog entry. I am glad to get my computer back but during this "ordeal" I was reminded there is a real world outside of cyberspace that is full of life, joy, and possibilities...

Bilbo, it's good to see you back on line again and it looks like you hit the ground running with a flurry of blog posts to catch us up with recent happenings. Good job keeping the computer problems in perspective... probably a time away from the distractions of the internet wouldn't be such a bad thing for me either. I've been down that road before, but while the PC is up and running, it's kind of difficult to stay away. And with the amount of Christmas shopping I've done on-line this year, I'm glad to not have to put so many miles on the car and shove my way through the crowds to get merchandise that can so easily be delivered to my door.

Also, gotta say "Thanks" for the Christmas card and that charming photo you included! It got a pretty hearty chuckle out of me, and I mean that in a complimentary way! I do have a question though... what is that strange grayish mass in the photo that's located directly to the right of your feet? It's quite a mystery to me at the moment. Can you recall what caused that phenomenon?

Hi Dave,

Normally I prefer to not solve mysteries these days, but I'll make an exception for you considering it is the holiday season and all...The mysterious object is a metal minature replica of the peaks in the background. One can use the metal plate to identify the peaks in the background...The peak slightly to the right of my head is called Iron Mountain...the series of peaks above my torso are called the Minarets....and the two large peaks right of my shoes are Ritter and Banner Peaks...and the mountains to the far right of the picture are called the Clark Range...All of these moutains are near Mammoth Lakes California which is one of my favorite hang outs...and... During my glory days I used to hike these mountains....
