Don't you hate these comment-spammers who start off with a fake compliment and then drop a totally irrelevant ad for their pointless blog-scam operations?

Anyway, here's a *real* comment made by a real person!

We've been discussing music - I mentioned on my blog the "Nuggets" compilation. I think you'd like it even though it's expensive (four CDs though with beautiful packaging.)

Check out this link - you can listen to samples of the songs to see if they might appeal to you - a lot of the tunes will be unfamiliar, but there is a lot of GREAT American music from the late '60's here.

Here's another good looking compilation I found... Better price, lots of material, some obscurities but all in all, a pretty fine collection of hits.

Rhino Records also has a fantastic series of CD's of 70's pop hits, called "Have a Nice Day" volumes 1 thru 15 or so... A lot of one-hit wonders on those discs.

It's going to be tough to get all the bigger bands on compilation albums though. I don't know what the "dollar store" scene is like in Bakersfield but sometimes I've found great deals on cut-out compilations that have surprisingly good music on them, for a buck per disc. If you like browsing, give it a shot.

Thanks Dave for taking the time to send me the links.I checked out the Rhino link and may buy a C.D. or two. Earlier today I picked up the Time Life 60's Gold 3D set at Costco. I wasn't even looking for it. It was just staring at me as I was cruising the music section earlier today. Listening to Good Morning Starshine, Spooky, Windy,American Pie, Turn, Turn, Turn, Do You believe in Magic and What the World Needs Now is Love, brought up alot of great memories and feelings I haven't felt for years. I'm feeling really groovy right now. Normally I am not big on nostalgia but maybe that will need to change. Listening to the blasts of the past sure beats the sounds of some of the the various noise pollution that fills my day....

Great collection, Bilbo! It sounds like that CD set was just there waiting for you at the exact right moment. Each of the songs you listed are part of my #1's collection... so enjoy! I am up to 1975 in my listening as of this morning. Some strange stuff was happening in the mid-70's... not to get you off the Sixties vibe you're in at the moment. But do these titles stir up any memories for you? "Having My Baby" "The Night Chicago Died" "Kung Fu Fighting" "Cat's In The Cradle" "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" "Loving You" "You're No Good" "Black Water" "Philadelphia Freedom" "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" "Listen To What The Man Said" "Jive Talking."

I'll take the Sixties over the Seventies any time but I guess the "Me Decade" was a bridge that got us from there to here and we all endured and learned something along the way... Some things might be best left behind though?
